Care & repair

Make it last.
We help.

Renewable fibres love gentle care. We also offer free repairs for the first two years — because the most sustainable piece is the one you keep wearing.

How to care

Hand wash only

Every Astra piece is made from rare, rescued fibres that need a gentle touch. Hand wash in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Skip the bleach and never wring — press water out gently and reshape while damp.

Dry in shade

Natural fibres weaken and fade in direct sun. Dry flat or on a padded hanger away from harsh light. Reshape while damp so the piece keeps its silhouette.

Steam, don't iron hard

A handheld steamer removes creases safely. If ironing, use a low heat setting and a pressing cloth — never iron over embroidery, prints or trims directly.

Snip loose threads

Cut stray threads instead of pulling them. This protects seams and keeps the garment looking finished for many more wears.

Store with room to breathe

Fold heavy weaves like cotton and linen; hang lighter silks and rayons on padded hangers. Use cotton garment bags — plastic traps moisture and yellows fibres.

Treat stains early

Blot, don't rub. Cold water and a drop of mild soap lifts most fresh marks. For oil, dust with corn flour first. Avoid supermarket stain removers on natural dyes.

By fibre

Care by fabric

Cotton & linen

Hand wash only in cool water with a mild detergent. Expect a soft crumple — it's the fabric breathing. Dry in shade and steam or press damp for a crisper finish.

Silk & peace silk

Hand wash only in cool water with a silk-safe wash. Never wring — roll in a towel to absorb water. Dry flat in shade. Iron on the reverse at low heat.

Rescued saree fabrics

These are heritage weaves given a second life. Hand wash only in cool water with a pH-neutral wash. Dry flat in shade. Store folded with acid-free tissue between the layers.

Wool & blends

Air out after each wear. For a full wash, hand wash only in cool water with a wool-specific detergent. Dry flat and reshape while damp.

Questions we get asked

What counts as a free repair?

Anything that fails from normal wear in the first two years — split seams, loose buttons, fallen hems, small tears, lining issues. Damage from bleach, sharp objects or alterations by another tailor is charged at a fair cost.

Can you alter the fit later?

Yes. Size adjustments, sleeve shortening and hem changes are available at cost after the first year. Made-to-order pieces get one free alteration in the first 30 days.

What if my piece is beyond repair?

Send it back to us. We'll re-cut usable panels into accessories through our circular programme and give you a store credit toward your next piece.
